Local Artist Unni Kriens Adds Splash Of Color To Life
The Park Rotana Abu Dhabi is proud to announce the opening of “Life in Color,” a mixed-media art exhibition by Norwegian artist Unni Kriens.
The exhibition will be held in the lobby of the Park Rotana from February 7th – 20th 2017. Using a wide range of techniques and styles, “Life in Color” incorporates everyday items to create subtle connections between the viewer’s memories and experiences.
“I love artwork which tells a story and explores the diverse and wonderful world we live in,” the Abu Dhabi-based Kriens said. “I want my artwork to awaken memories and remind viewers of positive and happy experiences they’ve had.”
Having recently exhibited in Singapore, Oman and at the British Club in Abu Dhabi, Kriens captures the vast beauty of her immediate surroundings while drawing upon her unique life experiences around Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
“My latest works are inspired by my current surroundings here in the UAE and feature local and regional themes,” she said. “I strongly believe that immersing ourselves in art, whether as a creator or viewer, allows us to let go of the day to day stresses in our lives to help us relax and recharge our emotional batteries – something which we all need from time to time.”
As a self-taught narrative artist, Kriens took inspiration from great Norwegian painters such as Edward Munch and Harald Sohlberg. She worked for many years in watercolors, but today her art ranges widely in terms of technique and style; from traditional to abstract to contemporary.
Marc De Beer, General Manager of Park Rotana, the sponsor hotel partner of the event, is excited about the upcoming exhibition. “At Park Rotana we seek to create memorable moments for our guests,” he said. “This art exhibition will accomplish that and more by adding interest to our spaces and enhancing our guests' experience. We aim to highlight the hotel as an exciting venue for the arts and other interesting events Abu Dhabi has to offer. "
An invitation-only opening reception for “Life in Color” will be held on February 6 from 7:30pm-9:30pm at Ground One on the mezzanine floor of the Park Rotana. The exhibition will then be moved to the lobby and will be open to the public on the 7th of February.
